Supporting the Future of PK–3 Teacher Preparation in California

We are thrilled to share that the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Morgan Charitable Foundation* – a foundation that has supported our work for more than a decade – to continue and expand our work in early childhood education.

This generous investment will support the next phase of our growing PK–3 initiatives, helping us deepen our work alongside early childhood teacher educators and teachers across California. Building on the momentum and learnings from this past year’s collaborative workgroup, we are excited to develop new resources, tools, and professional learning opportunities designed to strengthen the social, emotional, and cultural competencies of educators in early childhood settings, so that these educators are prepared to reach and teach the whole child.

Over the coming year, this funding will allow us to:

  • Develop a suite of practical resources and tools for PK–3 teacher educators and teachers grounded in our Anchor Competencies Framework.
  • Create supports that inform and strengthen new PK–3 teacher preparation programs emerging across the state of California.
  • Design a set of learning modules for PK–3 teacher educators and classroom teachers that help connect the Framework to practice.
  • Offer additional webinars and learning opportunities to share insights, reflections, and promising practices from our PK–3 workgroup experience.

As California expands its focus on early childhood education and the PK–3 continuum, we believe this work is more important than ever. Preparing educators to support the whole child requires intentional attention to educators’ own social, emotional, and cultural competencies, as well as the creation of tools that bridge theory and practice in meaningful ways.

The longstanding commitment and continued partnership of the Morgan Charitable Foundation has made it possible for us to innovate, collaborate, and expand our impact across educator preparation programs and schools. And this new chapter represents an exciting opportunity to continue learning alongside educators and partners throughout California as we work toward more responsive, relationship-centered systems of teaching and learning for young children.

We look forward to sharing updates, resources, and opportunities to engage as this work unfolds. Sign up for our newsletter to get the latest news!
