Fostering Social, Emotional and Cultural Competencies in Teacher Preparation: A Lever for Systemic Change

Hear about three unique teacher preparation settings and how they used the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child’s Anchor Competencies Framework to integrate social, emotional, and cultural competencies across their programs. Speakers include leaders at CalStateTEACH, the state of Oregon, and Minneapolis Public Schools, who will provide an insider’s view of the impetus for this work, the integration process and alignment with standards, and data on the work’s impact.


Dr. Nancy Markowitz (CRTWC, Founder & Strategic Advisor) will be presenting at the 2024 Learning Forward Conference with Dr. Dawn White (K-12 SEL Content Lead, Minneapolis Public Schools) in a daylong pre- conference workshop in Aurora, CO on Sunday Dec 8, 2024.

Social, Emotional, & Cultural Competencies: A Framework for Action

Learn about the Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child’s (CRTWC) Social, Emotional, and Cultural Anchor Competencies Framework and how it supports teaching academic content areas and culturally responsive/sustaining classroom and school environments where students succeed, and teachers thrive. Learn how the CRTWC Framework is integrated into preservice and inservice settings. Practice using the CRTWC Framework to analyze and enhance your own school and /or classroom work.

New Publication: A new article co-authored by our Executive Director (Dr. Rebecca Baelen) was recently published in Social and Emotional Learning: Research, Practice, and Policy. The article is titled: Emotional schemas in relation to educators’ social and emotional competencies to promote student SEL.
